Sustainable Tourism Program

The ACMC Sustainable Tourism Program dashboard is an interactive tool designed to provide detailed and up-to-date information on tourism activities in PWAs. In this viewer, users will find relevant data covering various aspects of sustainable tourism: annual visitors, dive site descriptions, and carrying capacity. It is also possible to analyse the origin of tourists, as well as their gender. The data shown here corresponds to the period from 2020 to 2023.

iNaturalist Observations

This interactive viewer brings together the biodiversity observations that the iNaturalist citizen-science community has recorded within the dive sites of Cocos Island, each delimited by a 500-metre radius. Over satellite imagery of the island, the 1,139 observations — covering 185 different taxa, recorded between 1999 and 2024 — are classified by group: ray-finned fishes (Actinopterygii), birds, molluscs, mammals, plants, insects and others. The interactive legend lets you filter each group on the map, and selecting a record shows its scientific and common name, taxonomic classification, observation date and the person who recorded it.
